The Powow River Poets  call on two

award-winning published poets from New York this weekend to inaugurate the new date and location of its reading series.

Joseph Bottum and Daniel Brown will kick off thepoetry group's new series of bimonthly readings Saturday at 3 p.m. at Jabberwocky Bookshop at The Tannery Mall, 50 Water St., Newburyport.


Newburyport's Justin Quinn and his band will round out the night. The vocalist and harmonica player recently assembled some of his favorite fellow musicians to record "Crazy Mixed Up World." He'll showcase the new CD, which highlights the varies styles of

blues. Joining Quinn will be Jon Ross on guitar, Dave Sag on bass and Per Hanson on drums.

In addition to the entertainment, there will be raffles, including one for a Prius car to be drawn April 19, and informational hjjzd1123 booths on church missions, Earth Day activities and other programs.

A native of South Dakota,  Bottum is a graduate

of Georgetown University and holds a doctorate in philosophy from Boston College. The author of "The Fall and Other Poems," his essays, reviews and poetry have appeared in numerous publications, including The Atlantic Monthly, Nineteenth-Century

Literature and National Review. A widely recognized essayist, poet and lecturer, he is the host of the syndicated national radio program Book Talk as well as a media commentator and memoirist. He has been poetry editor at the monthly First Things and arts

and culture editor of The Weekly Standard.

After 14 years of monthly Wednesday night readingsat the Newburyport Art Association, members of the Powow River Poets hope the series' new date and venue will allow them to better accommodate featured readers as well as their audience. The

group's founder, award-winning Newburyport poet, Rhina Espaillat, said while the poets have been grateful for the art association's support over the years, Jabberwocky is able to offer a recurring weekend afternoon for hosting the group.

Espaillat said she is excited  to feature two talented poets for the group's Jabberwocky debut.
