The company this week announced that exploration drilling has started at the Skalle prospect in the Barents Sea. The planned total depth is 2,650 meters below mean seal level and the well will be drilled using the drilling rig Transocean Leader. Drilling is expected to take approximately 60 days, the company informs in a press release.
The field, which is located near the Snøhvit field, is the first of Lundin’s five operated licenses in the Barents Sea. In addition, the company has one partner operated license in the region.Lundin believes the Skalle prospect might contain prospective resources of as much as 250 million barrels of oil equivalents.
The Oslo-listed company, controlled by shipping billionaire John Fredriksen, has tied up the West Alpha with employment off Norway for around seven months. A mystery operator has snapped up the 1986-built unit, which operates in the fleet of 75% Seadrill-controlled North Atlantic Drilling, to drill two wells in the Balder field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf with an estimated contract period of 210 days. fmcyf110519
The approximate contract value suggests the vessel will be earning around $476,190 per day. This is a reduction on the $494,000 day-rate the unit is currently earnings from a contract with a BG consortium running from May 2009 until June 2012.
