Recipient sees DWA sender's name as hierarchical instead of internet format; responding may cause 'Invalid user' error

 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
A mail message is sent from an IBM Lotus Domino Web Access (iNotes Web Access) user to an internet user. The internet user opens the message and sees the Domino Web Access user's in the From field in the standard Notes Hierarchical format rather than the typical internet format.

The Sender's name appears in the From field as follows:
    test_user/West/MyCompany%MYCOMPANY@MyCompany.com

The Sender's name should appear instead as something similar to this:
    test_user@West.MyCompany.com
The issue may or may not be reproducible when sending mail from a Notes Client.

If the recipient attempts to reply to the message, an error such as the following occurs:
    "invalid user"

Solution
The Domino Web Access (DWA) client looks in the user's Person document, then the Global Domain Document, then any Server Configuration documents for conversion settings.
In the Person document check the following:
    Mail tab
Internet Address: Ensure this is populated with the internet address of the DWA user. Check the forwarding address field as well.

In the Global Domain document (if present) check the following:
    Restrictions tab
Domino domains and aliases: Must be populated with the Notes domain

    Conversions tab
Internet Address Lookup: should be Enabled
Notes domain(s) included: should be set to "None"

In the Configuration Settings document check the following:
    MIME tab
    Conversion Options tab
      Outbound
Lookup Internet address for all Notes addresses when Internet address is not defined in document: this setting should be Enabled.

When the setting cited above is enabled, a new setting displays:

Perform exhaustive lookups when converting Notes addresses to Internet addresses: This setting should be Disabled.

Note: If you make changes to the Configuration and Global Domain documents you must restart the Domino Server. When testing to see if the problem remains, also clear out the internet browser's cache and recycle the browser.
