6.x Release Update Availability Document:
NetBackup Agents/Options must be at the same version level as the
NetBackup client and server packages. For example, a UNIX client
running Lotus Notes must be updated with the NetBackup 6.5.3 client
package (NB_CLT_6.5.3.tar) and the 6.5.3 Lotus Notes update (NB_LOT_6.5.3.tar).
Occasionally, some Agents/Options are not updated with new code and
are not distributed with a Release update. In such cases, apply the
latest available patch to the Agent/Option. For example, say you
want to update a UNIX client running Oracle with the NetBackup 6.5.3
client package (NB_CLT_6.5.3.tar), but an Oracle Agent update for 6.5.3 is not available. You would instead apply the 6.5.2 Oracle Agent update (NB_ORA_6.5.2.tar).
The following TechNote lists the available packages for each NetBackup 6.x Release update:
6.5 Release Updates:

Release updates are cumulative and do not require the application of the
previous release update. For example, a customer running NetBackup
6.5.GA can apply the 6.5.3 Release updates directly without having
to apply 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 first.
To install Hotfixes, NetBackup must be at the corresponding Release update level or the utilization of LiveUpdate.
Note: NetBackup 6.5.6 is the last planned 6.x release. NetBackup 6.x will be supported until the End of Support Life in October 2012. For more information on supported NetBackup versions, go to:

6.0 MPx Release Updates requires 6.0 GA/6.0 MP4 installation media be
installed before installation. For customers in need of 6.0 GA/6.0 MP4
installation media, go to:
The release updates are cumulative and do not require the application of
the previous release update. For example, a customer running 6.0 GA
can apply the 6.0 MP7 release updates directly, there is no need to
apply 6.0 MP1-MP6 in order to move to the 6.0 MP7 level.
Security Update installation requires NetBackup to be at the corresponding release update level.
