The licenses have many new security features
“We knew we had to look at the physical security of the card itself because the card had not been updated since the 1990’s so that was already planned,” said Marcia Adams of the SC Department of Motor Vehicles.
The licenses have many new security features that make it much harder to duplicate than the previous one including a second picture on the front as well as a detailed palmetto tree and crescent moon.
Like most states, we want to offer our citizens a more secure card. We’ve accomplished that goal with the new credential and we’re proud to present it to South Carolina citizens,” said Marcia Adams of the South Carolina DMV.There are hologram images of the tree on the back of the license as well and ultraviolet images that can only be seen under special lights. Guilloche lines and micro lettering is a new feature to the front of the card with small trees lines up at the edges.
