Within a week or so, the metal mesh surrounding two catwalks
think will be drywalled and painted black. It won’t be too long before lighting, weights and 15 lines-worth of rigging are added, installed by Las Vegas-based Protech Theatrical Services.
The project has involved reconfiguring heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, installing acoustic sound absorption “clouds” in the ceiling — an accoustical structure that compliments the lighting systems — and expanding the stage area.
More than 129,000 pounds of concrete were removed in order to add a thrust stage to extend it beyond the proscenium, and make the performance stage ADA-compliant.Beaumont-based Bogh Engineering said that the project so far has added 45 jobs locally. Mayor Brian DeForge is the project superintendent.The theater is expected to be finished by December, according to company owner Allen Bogh.
In early June, principals of the company, Russ and Mark Bogh, invited their cousin James Morrison, star of Fox TV’s “24,” to participate in a groundbreaking for the theater, which originally was built as a lecture-style theater and was never completed.Morrison was accompanied by a fellow actor, Academy Award nominee Michael O’Keefe.The groundbreaking received Hollywood-style treatment: distinguished guests received director’s movie clappers (think, “Scene 3, Take 2!”) and memorial Hollywood Walk of Stars replicas, and guests were treated to Broadway vignettes and Shakespeare scenes from the students of the Mountain View Middle School drama
