Camp Fire USA turned 100 years old this month
Most days, Marilyn's parents were thrilled to help her and an organization that promoted civic responsibility and social engagement for young girls. However, she said her father's mood changed a bit the year she sold 103 wreaths as a fundraiser for her Camp Fire group.
"We kept getting wreaths and getting wreaths, and (my dad) said, 'Why don't you join the Girl Scouts and sell those little cookies?'" Jarnot said.
Camp Fire USA turned 100 years old this month. Folks such as Jarnot will get together this weekend to celebrate their involvement with an organization they say provided them with opportunities throughout the years.
"I think Camp Fire prepared us for community service," Ann Crawford said.
Camp Fire USA may have started on the East Coast 100 years ago, but it quickly spread westward, according to Maryellen Bindel, executive director of the local council.
