Following the recent disaster in Haiti, many have given vast resources to meet the needs of this area. Money, tarps ,food, water, personal items, clothing, medical care, and other things have been donated and distributed. But there is still much need here. It has been estimated that only thirty to thirty-five percent of the need for waterproof shelters has been meet at this time. And this translated into the need for a common item that you probably have in your garage or basement: tarps.

To many of us, these items are poly tarps that we might pick up when we are going to do a home improvement project or want to cover some furniture to store something away in a dusty building. We rarely think of how helpful these simple objects are or could be.

But to the people in Haiti, having or not having a tarp could mean the different between spending the night in the cold drenching rain, or having a nice dry place to sleep. That is now important a tarp is in this devastated country.

The American Red Cross is doing their best to supply these items and fill the needs of those in Haiti, but there simply just are not enough to go around at this time. Some college students have gathered in America to make tarps from plastic bags in an effort to do their part to help the hurting. The choice current oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico has caused the price of the much needed poly tarps which has some companies purchasing canvas tarps for coverage.
