Burberry Brit Black Gold This concept shop offers elements of the three diverse passions of pals Jeff Ogiba, Sommer Foster-Santoro and Daniel Santoro (Foster-Santoro’s hubby): coffee, records and antiques. The Carroll Gardens space has a saloon-meets-speakeasy feel, courtesy of blond-wood walls, a black tin ceiling, dark wood floors, heavy black curtains and mounted animal heads. Sip Rook Coffee Roasters custom Black Gold–blend coffee, nosh on treats (including Brooklyn baker Scratchbread’s spicy brownies), and peruse LPs and 45s (expect everything from punk and jazz to soul) with prices as varied as the music selection ($3–$300). Coming soon are listening stations, record players, and cleaning supplies. Burberry Brit Ubiquitous classic trench coats mingle with cutting-edge designs at the posh label’s latest Upper West Side locale. The space looks sophisticated with theater-style lights, flat-screen TVs (screening runway footage), chrome fixtures, nearly all-black ornamentation and the brand’s signature plaid print peeking out of vases and wall insets. In case the dark, lustrous design feels too New York, a staffer with an English accent reminds you of Burberry’s British origins. The Good Home Co. Walk through the doors at this Chelsea fragrance shop to feel instantly relaxed by the clean scents, soft music and soothing pastel color-scheme. The peaceful space is a cross between an old American country store and a Provence boutique, outfitted with a faux orange tree, violet walls, potted flowers, white cabinets and brown wood furniture. Fifteen years ago owner Christine Dimmick started crafting her scent-and-home-goods business in her kitchen, selling her products online until she opened this NYC store. Find all-natural cleaning products in four signature fragrances: Italian Citrus, Pure Grass, Village Lavender and Beach Days. We’re fans of the recycled-plastic beads, which release aromas when used in a vacuum (one $15 container supports 12–14 uses). But the pièce de résistance is the potpourri bar, where customers can choose from 18 botanicals. Handpick a potpourri blend (starting at $15 for two cups), add an essential oil, and watch a staffer mix it right before your eyes.
