In past elections, nonpartisan primary elections were held in February, reducing the number of candidates for each office to two. Those two candidates then faced each other in an April runoff.
Corporation Counsel Jenifer Johnson said it’s her understanding that as many as four people can run in the general election for a single office, but she plans to contact the State Board of Elections office to confirm that impression.“The intent is solely to mirror state law,” she said.
