? Davis has worked the plate for a Rangers game three previous times this season. The Rangers have won all three, including the season-opener and the AL West-clinching game at Oakland on Sept. 25. The other game might be the most relevant of all: He umpired C.J. Wilson's eight-inning, four-hit performance at Los Angeles on July 23. Wilson didn't allow a run or a walk and struck out just three in a 1-0 win.
? Also interesting is how consistently he called strikes with Rangers starters on the mound and how that related to their season strike percentage. For instance, in the season opener, Scott Feldman threw 63 of 100 pitches for strikes, 63 percent. For the season, his strike percentage was 62.9 percent. Wilson threw 60.5 percent of his 104 pitches for strikes against the Angels; for the season he threw strikes 59.7 percent of the time. The bigest difference was in Derek Holland's start in the AL West-clincher. Holland threw 59.3 percent of his pitches for strikes; for the season he was at 61.3 percent. Davis may demand strikes, but it appears there isn't a wide difference between how often strikes are thrown with him behind the plate and when other umpires are behind the plate for the same pitchers.
? Finally, Davis also called one CC Sabathia start this year: June 9 at Baltimore. Sabathia went seven innings in that game, allowed nine hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out eight. Sabathia's strike percentage was 63.1 percent compared to 63.7 for the season.
