CRIMES involving
have dropped dramatically since the Echo’s campaign to ban them was enforced by the Government, new figures reveal.
Police say the number of incidents involving the weapons dropped by 64 per cent in the year after the ban was introduced.
The figures, obtained by the Echo under the Freedom of Information Act, show that between April 2007 and April 2008, Devon and Cornwall Police recorded 28 incidents where
were used or identified.
A ban was introduced by the Government in April 2008, after a hard-fought Echo campaign.
Between April 2008 and April 2009, only 10 incidents involving
were recorded by police.
From April this year to October, only
samurai swords seven have been recorded.
