Officials are applying for up to $600,000 in federal grants Officials are applying for up to $600,000 in federal grants to clean up three environmentally threatened sites the city community redevelopment agency owns south of downtown.

The sites include the former Gro Mor fertilizer supply store, 307 S. Evers St.; a portion of the property formerly owned by Stock Building Supply at S. Collins and Alabama streets, and the Hydraulic Hose & Cylinder property, at 617 S. Evers St.The properties are in the midtown area, just south of the historic business district, which the city wants to redevelop.

City officials say they bought the properties knowing that they could likely receive help to clean them up through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's brownfields cleanup program.
