L/stone council workers stage go-slow against management LIVINGSTONE City Council workers have gone on a go-slow over alleged mismanagement of the local authority by town clerk Dres Neves.

Making the resolution through acclamation yesterday at the civic centre during a general meeting addressed by the ZULAWU branch chairperson George Thole, the workers resolved to only resume work after being addressed by local government minister Eustarckio Kazonga.

“We will write a letter to management raising your concerns,” he said.Thole added that the union was a servant of the workers and that he was not going to force them not to withdraw their labour.

“We are not going to force you not to withdraw your labour. If you want to withdraw, then you are welcome. Labour is supposed to be provided in exchange for money,” he said.

Thole was told not to meet management as requested by Neves but that the minister must travel to Livingstone to address the workers while others demanded that President Rupiah Banda meet them.

“As we withdraw our labour, let us report on a daily basis here at the civic centre. We are government workers, so we must report here, break for lunch and report back here to the lawns. This withdrawal of labour is with effect this hour," Thole said.

Livingstone City Council has come under attack from workers, forcing ZULAWU national president Misheck Nyambose to travel to Livingstone with his secretary general last Wednesday.
