I never had a leak of any kind Cohen's roof has been repaired, but he is concerned because however it's less than three years old and he has the same shingles on his main home. Cohen is convinced that the way the shingles are attached to the roof - with a continuous sealant bead - allows water to sometimes become trapped instead of evaporating, which in turn can rust nails. Cohen says the leaks in his roof appear to have come in through some rusty nail holes.

Cohen has a five year guarantee on labor and a 30 year warranty on parts. He thinks the problem is the design of the shingles, not how his roofer applied the shingles. He filed a claim with Owens Corning for a new roof. The claim was denied.

Jackie Greiner replaced his roof in 2008 and says he's had three leaks since then. The last was one in June and he described it as pretty serious, a "four" on a scale of one to five. "I would like them to tell me what's causing it, why a roof that new is leaking," he says.

Greiner says ironically, the roof he replaced was 17 years old and "I never had a leak of any kind." Greiner thinks it may be the continuous sealant bead, saying it "makes sense to him that it could be that." Yet his main concern is simply the leaking roof. He's already paid for damage and he wants answers. His claim with Owens Corning was denied as well. "The first time they told me there wasn't enough pitch on the roof but I've read the warranty and nowhere does it say you have to have a certain pitch to have that shingle on there," he says. Greiner says "I really don't know what to do or what to think until they determine what the problem is, if it's the shingle then I want a whole new roof."
