The Cyclones captured the Kelly Cup championship this year and in 2008. They reached the conference finals in Weber's other two seasons. His teams went 177-92-19.
Weber, who previously was an assistant coach for the Orlando Solar Bears (2000-01) in the International Hockey League and for the Milwaukee Admirals (2002-03) in the AHL, developed a close relationship with Panthers Assistant General Manager Mike Santos while Santos was director of hockey operations for the Predators.
Santos and Panthers GM Dale Tallon put together a list of more than 20 candidates to replace Benoit Groulx, who under fire after a disappointing first-round playoff exit resigned to return to junior hockey. They narrowed their search to three finalists after the first round of interviews and ultimately gave Weber a one-year contract with an option for a second year.
