two drill ships responsible for drilling the relief wells
On Saturday morning, Bonnie was barely holding maximum sustained winds
caboger of 30 miles per hour and all tropical storm warnings for the Gulf coast were discontinued, a National Hurricane Center advisory said.
About 10 to 15 vessels, including two drill ships responsible for drilling the relief wells that will plug the well permanently, had been pulled away from the scene ahead of Bonnie, which was downgraded from storm to depression Friday evening.
Within 24 hours most vessels would be back on scene, retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, head of the federal oil spill response, said in a press briefing. Some vessels that took shelter up the Mississippi River will take longer to reach the well site.
Two support vessels and at least one remote-controlled submarine monitoring the blown-out well at the sea floor had stayed on scene overnight, Allen said. The well remained shut-in and pressure in the well had built to 6,891 pounds per square inch.
Allen said Tropical Depression Bonnie set the timeline for
caboger permanently cutting off the well back at least seven to nine days.
