Noida, UP, October 10: A group of 15 traders from Jammu and Kashmir
embroidery products Saturday participated in Asia’s biggest
embroidery curtain handicraft exposition, the 28th Autumn Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IGHF) 2009. The trade fair has been organized by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) in which the Sate contingent is participating for the first time.
The four day fair was inaugurated by secretary, Textiles, Rita Menon at Indian Export & Mart, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Terming the participation of the exhibitors from Jammu and Kashmir as ‘special focus of display of arts and crafts’ Menon said “15 exhibitors (14 private and one state owned} from J&K will display their merchandise ranging from walnut, crewel, embroidery products like curtain material, namdas, floor covering and decorative products and the like.”
“This is for the first time that a special focus has been placed on the arts
embroidery products and crafts of J&K in IGHF and we expect that
embroidery curtain these product groups will attract considerable attention from overseas buyers,” Menon said adding in the USD 250 billion gifts and handicrafts world market, India’s share is a meager 2 per cent. “We have to evolve promotional strategies to enhance it our market share to at least 4 per cent in the world market,” Rita said.
