Responds to the Equipment Announcement
For over 60 years, Titleist has designed and manufactured superior performance and
quality golf equipment. During this time, Titleist has always been supportive of
the USGA in their role as golf's national governing body. We have voluntarily
submitted all Titleist golf balls and golf clubs to the USGA for validation of
their conformance to the Rules of Golf and remained faithful and vigilant to
ensure that every Titleist golf product that reaches golf shops conforms to the
Rules of Golf.
The USGA's announcement verifies that the Titleist Titanium 975D and 976R drivers,
and all submitted Titleist golf equipment in the marketplace today, currently
conform and will continue to conform to the Rules of Golf under the proposed
testing protocol. Titleist is also encouraged by the USGA's acknowledgment that
the use of titanium drivers has not contributed to the dilution of the role of
skill in golf, as it affirms our belief that the timeless balance between
tradition and technology has been preserved. Most importantly, we can reassure the
25 million golfers in the United States, who have recently been uncertain about
current or future equipment conformity, that they can confidently use and purchase
any Titleist golf club or golf ball in the marketplace.
As we have in the past, Titleist remains committed to working with the USGA so
that the rules and testing methodologies for golf equipment satisfy the USGA, the
equipment manufacturers and golfers alike.
