An amazing article.

Just noticed Alice’s blog about " life is tricky". I do not know why but the " " method come across my mind after I read it. Quote from the wiki page:

Trial and error has a number of features:
  • solution-oriented: trial and error makes no attempt to discover why a solution works, merely that it is a solution.
  • problem-specific: trial and error makes no attempt to generalise a solution to other problems.
  • non-optimal: trial and error is an attempt to find a solution, not all solutions, and not the best solution.
  • needs little knowledge: trial and error can proceed where there is little or no knowledge of the subject.

To my surprise, the feature list of this method perfectly describes the finding the right person procedure as well:

  • solution-oriented: no need to know why the right person is right, it just is if you feel it
  • problem-specific: each and everyone is different, so their right one is specific as well
  • non-optimal: there is not only one "the right person". Of course, it can be argued that "the right person" should be the and only one person fits.
  • needs little knowledge: you do not need to be taught about how to find girlfriend (the potential right person) ;)

So I draw my conclusion finding the right person is a use case of Trial and error.

At first glance, I think this is sad: trial and error method is not such an ideal approach, it seems to me. However, it is not all that bad. Quote from the wiki page:

The can be regarded as containing an element of trial and error in its formulation and testing of hypotheses. Also compare , and – all varieties of search which apply the basic idea of trial and error.

is also a form of trial and error…

The method is also used in scientific method and nature, so why shall we complain about using this method in finding the right person ;)
