this article mainly illustrate how to set the environment variables in u box. Typically there are three methods to achieve this goal.
1) you can edit the /etc/profile, add the environment variables in this file. And when you relogin, the new environment will be effective fro all users.
2) If you want add the environment respectively for the special user. you can edit the .bashrc in his home directory. By doing this, when the user login in, he/she can use the environment, and it is not effective for others.
3) The last methods is used to set the temp environment variables, for it will become invalid after you out you terminal. The command 'set' is doing this purpose .
