The Íshestar Riding Centre ia a unique facility here in Iceland equipped for its urpose, as good as it gets. The Riding Centre is set in beautiful surroundings just outside the town of Hafnarfjörður, about 10 minutes drive from Reykjavík. The area provides endless opportunities for riding. hiking ans other outdoor activities. Enjoy wonderful riding routes through ancient lava fields, around an old volcano and into different Nature Parks, all depending on the tour selected.
The locker room of our Riding Centre is well equipped. We provide all our customers with warm overalls or raingear, riding boots and helmets. The Íshestar staff takes pride in finding horses to suit individual needs as well as secure the safety of everybody.
The origin of the Icelandic horse is exactly the same as the arrival of the first settlers from Scandinavia in the ninth century.Clearly, the horse was the catalyst which allwed the settlement of Iceland to go forward and prosper. Since no other breed of horses has ever been imported to Iceland, this special animal is a purebred 'Viking Horse'.The passion and spirit of the Icelandic horse is never broken only brought under control. As a result, the Icelandic purebreed horse remains one of the world´s most unique animals to this day.
