Light is not a thing that can be reproduced, but something that must be depicted using something else: colours.
There is neither line nor modeling, there is only contrast. Once the colours are at their richest, the form will be at its fullest.
Two things matter in a painter: his eye and his mind.
The two must give mutual support. Both need to be trained. The eye by studying nature, the mind by an orderly, logical approach to impressions and experiences. They create the means of expression.
