HTC HD2  vs   Motorola ES400



Let us explore the similarities and differences between the two cellphones HTC HD2 and Motorola ES400. The HTC HD2 is a GSM Technology phone announced in 2009, October and the Motorola ES400 is a GSM Technology phone announced in 2010, June. The Motorola ES400 is a relatively newer model than the HTC HD2. But both these phones were announced around the same period within a gap of about 8 months.

The main differences between these two items are that, the HTC HD2 provides FM Radio which is not present in ES400. Similarly, the ES400 provides Secondary Camera and QWERTY which are not present in HTC HD2. Both of them contain Audio Player, Video Player, Camera, Bluetooth, Speakerphone, Touchscreen, GPS, GPRS and 3G. The ES400 is a lighter and smaller device than HTC HD2.

Let us now compare the features of these devices in more detail.

Connectivity and communication

ES400 does not contain Radio, whereas, HTC HD2 possesses these features. The built-in FM radio helps keep you informed and lets you enjoy your favorite stations. The HTC HD2 offers Stereo FM radio with RDS. The ES400 has v2.0 with A2DP Bluetooth while the HTC HD2 contains v2.1 with A2DP Bluetooth. Bluetooth is a computing and telecommunications industry specification that describes how cellphones, computers, and personal digital assistants (PDAs) can easily interconnect with each other and with home and business phones and computers using a short-range wireless connection. Bluetooth is useful in term of cable less technology by using with application such as wireless synchronization, file sharing, and also use as gateway for internet connectivity. The ES400 has got Class 10, 236.8 kbps EDGE and the HTC HD2 comes with Class 12 EDGE. The ES400 has got Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g WLAN. The HTC HD2 possesses Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Wi-Fi router WLAN. WLANs use radio technology instead of cabling. Currently only capable of delivering speeds of 1-15Mbps, but are still under development. Wi-fi, also known as WLAN, it uses high frequency radio signals to transmit and receive data. The ES400 comes with HSDPA 3G and the HTC HD2 has got HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA, 2 Mbps 3G. HSDPA (High Speed Download Packet Access) technology represents an upgrade of the UMTS network. HSDPA, with its higher speed of data transfer, surpassing even ADSL transfer speeds, offers a more capable mobile broadband access to the internet, e-mail and information systems. 3G is a cellphone communication standard. Supports higher data rates than 2G. The 3G feature in the cellular phones helps in faster downloads. The ES400 contains SMS (threaded view), MMS, Email, Push Email, IM Messaging while the HTC HD2 has got SMS (threaded view), MMS, Email, Instant Messaging. MMS is a Multimedia Messaging Service that enables users to send images, videos and other multimedia files over mobile phones. The multimedia messaging service helps users to send video, photos, images, text and sound all together in one very easy to create MMS and send it to any other MMS capable mobile phone. The ES400 comes with Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps GPRS and the HTC HD2 possesses Class 12 (4+1/3+2/2+3/1+4 slots), 32 - 48 kbps GPRS. GPRS is a packet-switched technology that enables high-speed wireless Internet and other data communications. The ES400 contains microUSB v2.0. The HTC HD2 has microUSB. Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a plug-and-play interface between a computer and add-on devices (such as audio players, joysticks, keyboards, telephones, scanners, and printers). The ES400 offers with A-GPS support and the HTC HD2 comes with with A-GPS support and NaviPanel. GPS means Global Positioning Systems. A position-finding system which uses radio receivers to pick up signals from four or more special satellites (there are 24 in orbit) and compute WGS co- ordinates for the receiver. GPS is useful in cycling, sailing, hiking and walking activities both as a mapping tool and as a safety device. The ES400 has got WAP 2.0 / xHTML, HTML Browser whereas the HTC HD2 contains WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML Browser. WAP is a specification that allows users to access information via wireless handheld devices. These devices usually have small screens.


Multimedia

HTC HD2 does not come with Secondary Camera, whereas, ES400 has got these features. The second camera helps one to click self portrait and also make video calls. The ES400 comes with 3.15 MP, 2048x1536 pixels, autofocus, LED flash Camera. The HTC HD2 has got 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, dual LED flash Camera. Autofocus (or AF) is a feature of cameras that allows them to obtain (and in some systems to also continuously maintain) correct focus on a subject, instead of requiring the operator to adjust focus manually. An autofocus is useful when you're shooting quickly and without much planning, and it can give a relatively high proportion of sharp photos.

The ES400 contains TFT resistive touchscreen, 65K colors Display Type whereas the HTC HD2 has TFT capacitive touchscreen, 65K colors Display Type. TFT is also known as Active matrix display. TFT (Thin Film Transistor) is a liquid crystal display found on notebook computers and flat panel displays.A touchscreen is a display which can detect the presence and location of a touch within the display area. The touchscreen is useful for listening to music, watching movies and basic web functions. The ES400 offers 640 x 480 pixels, 3.0 inches Display Size while the HTC HD2 possesses 480 x 800 pixels, 4.3 inches Display Size. The ES400 has got Qualcomm MSM 7627 600 MHz processor CPU. The HTC HD2 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor CPU. The ES400 has got microSD, up to 32GB Card slot whereas the HTC HD2 contains microSD, buy memory Card slot. 2G is also known as Personal Communications (PCS) or digital wireless mobile communications network. It is based on circuit-switched technology where each call requires its own cell channel. The ES400 has 256 MB RAM, 1 GB Flash Internal Memory while the HTC HD2 offers 448 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM Internal Memory.


Battery

The ES400 possesses Standard battery, Li-Ion 1540 mAh whereas the HTC HD2 provides Standard battery, Li-Ion 1230 mAh. The ES400 contains Up to 6 h Battery Talk time. The HTC HD2 has got Up to 6 h 20 min (2G) / Up to 5 h 40 min (3G) Battery Talk time. Talk time gives the length of time a person can talk on the cell phone without recharging the battery. The ES400 comes with Up to 250 h Stand-by while the HTC HD2 has got Up to 490 h (2G) / Up to 390 h (3G) Stand-by. Standby time gives the amount of time a fully charged wireless portable or transportable phone can be on before the phone's battery will lose power.
