Using the Format Utility to Create fdisk Partitions |
Only one Solaris OS fdisk partition can exist on a hard disk. You use the format utility to create fdisk partitions. First, execute the format command and select the appropriate disk (in this example disk 1):
If the disk does not already have a disk label on it you will be prompted to label it now:
The format menu is displayed. Enter the fdisk command to display the fdisk menu: FORMAT MENU: The fdisk menu displays information about the disk size, cylinder size, and current fdisk partitions. In this example, the disk does not have any fdisk partitions:
To create a single fdisk partition using the whole disk, select option 1 and enter the number of the type of disk partition that you would like to create. Select option 1 which is a Solaris OS fdisk partition. Select the partition type to create: You will then be prompted to enter a percentage that indicates how much of the disk you would like to use to make this fdisk partition. Select 100, which represents 100%, to use the whole disk. Specify the percentage of disk to use for this partition Because this is going to be a non-bootable partition, do not make the partition active. Only the boot partition should be set as active. Select n for no. Should this become the active partition? If yes, it will be activated Select option 5 to save the fdisk partition configuration.
