GPON General characteristics

1.Summary

    This document describes all general characteristics of GPON ( Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network ) system a flexible optical access network capable of supporting the bandwidth requirements of business and residentical services. The GPON supports nominal line rate of 1.2 Gbit/s and 2.4 Gbit/s in the downstream direction and 155 Mbit/s, 622 Mbit/s, 1.2 Gbit/s and 2.4 Gbit/s in the upstream direction and both symmetrical and asymmetrical ( upstream / downstream ).

2.Scope

   This Recommendation the document describes address the general characteristics of GPON systems. The general characteristics include example of services, UNI(User Network Interfaces) and SNI(Service Node Interfaces) that are requested by network operators. Also, the Recommendation shows the principal development configuration.
