San Francisco prohibited plastic grocery bags
My nervy preference for flimsy plastic has compelled
health the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to punish more than a million shoppers living in unincorporated parts of the county by instituting a ban on these extremely convenient carriers. Sorry.
When San Francisco prohibited plastic grocery bags in 2007, it really hurt L.A. County's feelings. So now our Board of Supervisors is going to make sure that its denizens do their part to save the planet. San Francisco's ordinance actually allows stores to distribute organic plastic bags, but our county plans a more extreme measure that will forbid grocery stores from using all plastic bags. Take that, you granolas!
Additionally, a 10-cent per paper bag charge will be added to the tab of miscreants who don't bring in their environmentally approved (well, that's up for debate) contraptions to hold their
health purchases. Somehow, I don't think this is what Bing Crosby and Rudy Vallee meant when they sang, "Brother, can you spare a dime."
