Phosphates cause algae blooms in lakes and ponds
The recent articles about dishwasher detergent makers going phosphate-free and
reinforce then blaming the environmentalists for causing dirty dishes are a bunch of hooey! We have used an "environmentally safe" dishwashing detergent powder for many years and have sparkling clean dishes and glassware!
The product we use is concerned about how our decisions affect the next seven generations and is non-toxic: no phosphates, chlorine bleach, dyes or artificial fragrances, or NTA or EDTA. The powder cleans beautifully! (As does their laundry detergent, non-chlorine bleach, and kitchen/bathroom cleaner.) We use it in conjunction with an environmentally friendly rinse aid.
Phosphates cause algae blooms in lakes and ponds that can lead to the suffocation of aquatic plants and animals. The production and use of chlorine bleach creates dangerous toxins such as dioxin, furans, and other organochlorines which can accumulate in our bodies, causing cancer, birth defects, and developmental and reproductive disorders.
