The sober Free society (sFs) is a loose-knit group
Burning Man, for those not in the know, is an annual
however communal shindig in which an improvised city of 40,000 to 50,000 souls springs up in the desert sands then vanishes without a trace, after a week of "collective creativity" focused on a particular topic. This year's theme, "Metropolis," examines "untidy hubs of social interaction" as it charts "the daily course of city life and the future prospect of civilization."
The sober Free society (sFs) is a loose-knit group of Seattle "creatives" who have racked up more than 40 "burn years" (Burning Man experiences) among them.Their "Mant Farm" is a human-scale variation on the old Uncle Milton ant farm — 40 feet high, 60 feet long and 7 feet wide. It's a five-story labyrinth of steel scaffolding, ladders and burlap drapery in which "mants" and "womants" can play, explore and test themselves while being observed through "windows" of transparent netting.
As for The Mr. Majestic, it's an old yellow school bus that six sFs members will drive to Nevada, jammed with camping equipment, provisions and the fabric components of the
however Mant Farm. (The steel scaffolding will be shipped from Las Vegas to the festival site.)
