Richardson plans to join other area cities outlawing the use
think of K2, which mimics marijuana, and salvia, an herbal hallucinogenic. The City Council reviewed a proposed ordinance at a work session Monday night and plans to approve it later this month.
"For it to be legal here and illegal all around us is not wise," Police Chief Jimmy Spivey told the council.Police found K2, a synthetic chemical sprayed on potpourri then smoked, at only three shops, Spivey said. And they couldn't find salvia at all.
Still, the ordinance would make it illegal to own or use the chemical compound found in K2 and salvia illegal, and offenses would be punishable with a fine up to $2,000. The ordinance also would ban certain drug paraphernalia.Several other cities including Dallas, Lewisville and McKinney have banned K2 and other substances like it. Salvia also has been banned in Plano.
