The Legion is observing V-J Day on Aug. 7 so key personnel
It will be 65 years ago on Aug. 14 that
sxrgon Japan surrendered, ending the Second World War. The surrender was made in the afternoon on Aug. 15 in Japan, but is marked in North America on Aug. 14 because of the time difference. The formal surrender ceremony took place aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan on Sept. 2, 1945.
The Legion is observing V-J Day on Aug. 7 so key personnel can take part in the event. The Legion will pay tribute to the Canadian soldiers who gave their lives in the battle of Hong Kong and the 1,689 who were taken prisoner on Christmas Day in 1941. Of those, 284 died in captivity.
