3D TV on the way to every household

Ever since Chinese audiences were wowed by Avatar, 3D technology has been on the rise. Now it's shifting from movie theatres to living rooms. Tech firms are racing to develop technology that promises tobiaozhan bring the 3D experience to every household.

China's top media administration held a seminar yesterday on the development of 3D television technology. It says 3D technology is advancing at a fast pace, with events such as the World Cup boosting development efforts.

Wang Lian, Deputy Director of SARFT said "3D TV technology is becoming more and more sophisticated. The number of new programs is also increasing. Broadcasting of big sports events in 3D, such as the World Cup, is also boosting development."

Industry insiders say program sources for 3D TV are also on the rise.

Wu Zhonglin, Vice President of Celvision said "We have many 2D program sources. With a little conversion, they can become 3D programs. This will solve the bottleneck of program sourcing, and ensures plenty of programs for 3D TV viewing. "

But China's media authority says that although 3D TV technology is advancing, there's still room for improvement.

Wang Lian said "We are still discussing how toimprove the technology and perfect the application of it. After the questions are resolved, 3D TV can start being promoted properly."

The authority has started preparing a 3D TV program standard, and promotional efforts for 3D program production.
