West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCO), a subsidiary of Power Development in southern region, will distribute 1,33,000 energy saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) among 30,000 clients under three power distribution divisions in three districts under Bari-sal division.
Barisal WZPDCO sour-ces said that the company will launch the distribution programme of these energy saving compact fluorescent lamps in Barisal, Jhalakati and Pirojpur district from February 2010. The sources further said that compact fluorescent lamp, also known as , is designed to replace incandescent lamp and can fit into most existing light fixtures formerly used for incandescent.
Abul Hossain, Executive Engineer of Barisal WZPDCO, said 'Compared with general service incandescent lamps giving the equally visible light, CFLs used less power, had a longer rated life, but had a higher purchase cost. People remained far away from the energy saving devices mainly due to their higher costs. However, a CFL can save over Tk 1899.50 in electricity costs over the life time compared to an incandescent lamp.' He said, adding, 'If the energy saving lights occupies all the households in line with the 80 per cent energy saving parameter, it can save huge power.'A client consuming less than 100 watts electricity will get 1 free CFL, above 200 watts will get 2 CFL and more than 200 will get 3 CFL out of any cost under current programme.
Preparation for distributing these free CFL including training of the distribution staffs, enlistment of the selected clients would be completed by December 2009, WZPDCO official said. Distribution of 1,33,704 CFL through 43 camps under 8 centers would be started from February 27, 2010 under three divisions of WZPDCO in 3 districts of Barisal division, he informed.
