Pump makers go for length
Sany Australia offers a range of truck-mounted and
concrete pumps along with stationary placing booms. The company's national sales manager, John Clarke, says that in China, Sany recently developed the world's longest truck-mounted boom (72m) but this is currently unsuitable for use in Australia due to excessive road permit restrictions.
"In particular, customers are looking for lighter equipment with reduced overhang that conforms to road and bridge load regulations. This makes road registration easier because
are not required," Clarke said.
"Also, the unfold height of the boom can be an issue. A five-arm boom folds up better to conform to legal length requirements for transport purposes. Another consideration is that today there is a lot of tilt-up slab type construction of buildings such as warehouses, where the roof is installed before the concrete slab is poured.
Therefore, it's important
that the unfolding height of the boom be as low as possible to enable the pump to be operated under a restricted roof height.
