一些关于KDM，GDM等的论述

我今天安装Redhat as4没有选择XWINDOW以及GNOME，KDE，安装后却出现一个类似图形界面登陆框的界面，
用root登陆却提示，Root logins are not allowed，后来查了一些资料，才知道这个登陆框是KDM，也就是登陆管理器 ，而且这个KDM挺有趣的地方可以远程登陆类似WINDOWS远程桌面，登陆到其他机器上。实际是利用了XDMCP服务

gdm和kdm是两个不同风格的图形化界面登录管理器,譬如rh8默认的那个很PP的图形化登界面就是gdm,一般的系统都同时带有kdm和gdm两个,打开/etc/inttab,可以见到最后有一句
x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon
这句就定义了如果是以init 5级别(也就是直接图形化界面)进入系统的,则运行/etc/prefdm这个脚本(-nodaemon为参数,作用未知),如果你仔细看看这个 prefdm脚本,就发现它其实是一个选择脚本,这个脚本执行时会根据/etc/sysconfig/desktop里的内容来选择登录管理器,一般来 说,如果/etc/sysconfig/desktop的内容为:
DESKTOP=KDE
则运行kdm做登录管理器
如果内容为:
DESKTOP=GNOME
则运行gdm做登录管理器

这只是对一般系统而言,在红旗3.0上验证过,但在rh8上不行,rh8的prefdm脚本做了点小手脚,上面的方法不行(应该在/etc/sysconfig/desktop里添加多两行定义就可以了)

因此,最直接的选择方法就是,直接把x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon改成x:5:respawn:kdm -nodaemon或x:5:respawn:gdm -nodaemon（实验后发现，GDM无法登陆，看来和安装时选取的包有关系。不过修改成KDM还是可以登陆的，是文本界面）

今天在装Redhat AS4.0的时候，什么都装好后，重启出现了一个类似于KDE的登录窗口。晕~~~，我没有选择安装GHome,KDE之类的图像界面啊……，不管了，等 我输入root和密码后，居然提示Root logins are not allowed，这个时候我就按Ctrl+Alt+F1，还好text mode下可以登录，之后就是将/etc/inittab里面的id:5:initdefault:改为id:3:initdefault:就可以了。下一次启动后登录也不会出现一个类似于KDE的登录窗口。 （但是，我建立的普通用户可以登陆KDE界面，是3.3版本的，我不知道真正安装了KDE包是否不容许root登陆？或者你不选择图形界面包，默认就安装有？）

In , KDM ( ) is a graphical login interface for using . It is the K Desktop Environment replacement for , the default X display manager (from which it was originally developed). KDM allows users to pick their session type on a per-login basis. Like KDE, it uses the toolkit and can be configured from the KDE control center. It also allows theming and user photos.

A simple KDM login dialog box has a list of users on the left, stating their username, their "real name" and optionally also containing a small picture that can be chosen by the user or the administrator. To the right from the list is a greeting and a picture. These items can be customised using the . Users may also replace this picture with an analog clock. Under the picture/clock are the Username and Password text boxes. On some systems, users will find a session selector under the password field where you can select the kind of session type you want to start, e.g. , or a simple terminal. At the bottom, there is a series of buttons which offers commands to shut down and reboot the computer, restart the X server or start a tool to manage users.

KDM has an optional autologin feature; despite the inherent insecurity of this, users sometimes request it.
