Winners and losers from NFL Draft

Though it may seem a little early to deem and of the 2013 NFL Draft after just one day, there are some teams and players who are a bit happier than others heading into Friday. I just one man with an opinion, but here my scorecard. Peter Schrager

The Rams gave up an awful lot to bring Tavon Austin to St. Louis, but he was the guy they been targeting for weeks. If you get who you want, it a home run in my book. St. Louis sent the No. 16, No. 46, No. 78, and No. 222 pick to Buffalo for Austin and the Bills third round pick. A dynamic 5 foot 8, 170 pound playmaker, Austin doesn fit the mold for the typical wide receiver selected in the top 10. That said, with the Jets reportedly chomping at the bit to select Austin at No. 9, the Rams did what they had to do to get their guy. Then, GM Les Snead contacted his former colleague in Atlanta, Thomas Dimitroff, and traded back to the 30 spot. With that selection, St. Louis addressed its need at linebacker and selected Alec Ogletree. Ogletree, who likely slipped because of the off the field issues surrounding him (four game suspension in 2012; a DUI before the Combine), is a converted safety with terrific athletic ability. Jeff Fisher has a history of taking risks on guys with character red flags (see Janoris Jenkins, Adam Jones and Albert Haynesworth) and took a ball player. The Seahawks and 49ers have dominated headlines all offseason. Very quietly, there has been a third team in the NFC West loading up, too. With the additions of Jake Long and Jared Cook in free agency and now Austin and Ogletree, the Rams are not to be overlooked in 2013.
